Dance in the Media, has been developed in response to the positive feedback, levels of student engagement, participation, and enjoyment demonstrated throughout Year 9 Dance Styles Semester 1, 2026 at the WEST Campus. Students showed particular interest in exploring a variety of dance styles and engaging with movement and dance experiences that connected to their everyday lives and popular culture. Their enthusiasm for current dance trends, music, and digital media highlighted the value of providing relevant learning opportunities that reflect how young people can experience and interact with dance today.
This unit would therefore build on students’ existing skills and interests and deepen their understanding of dance as a creative, communicative, and influential art form. The focus on familiar and engaging media contexts is designed to maintain high levels of motivation while supporting the development of critical thinking, creativity, and dance literacy appropriate for Year 10 learners.
It would also help sustain student engagement while providing a natural pathway into VCE Dance and VET Dance for learners at the West Campus.
